Race Review

The Doncaster 10k, held on Saturday 26th November 2023, was a well-organised and enjoyable race that attracted runners of all abilities. The event, organised by Curlys Athletes and Tyne Bridge Harriers, featured a road-closed course that took in the scenic sights of the Doncaster city centre, including the iconic bridges over the River Don. The race was split into two waves, with sub-40 minute runners starting at 10am and the rest following at 10:25am.

I was part of the A wave, and I arrived at the start area around 9:30am. There was a festive and friendly atmosphere, with music playing and marshals directing runners to their pens. The weather was cold but sunny, with a light breeze.

The race started on time, and we were soon running along the city centre, passing the Frenchgate Shopping Centre and under the St George's Bridge. The course was well-marked and marshalled, with distance flags and water stations every 2.5km. The first half of the race was mostly flat or slightly downhill, and I felt good as I maintained a steady pace. I enjoyed the views of the city and the river, and the support from the spectators and volunteers was great.

The second half of the race was more challenging, as we had to run back the same way, facing some slight inclines and headwinds. I started to feel the fatigue in my legs, and my pace dropped slightly.

Overall, I had a great time at the Doncaster 10k. It was a well-organised and enjoyable event, with a fantastic course and atmosphere. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a fast and fun 10k in the South Yorkshire. I hope to be back next year!
