The Holly Springs Half Marathon brings you race distances of half marathon, 10k & 5k. Whether you are a seasoned runner or hoping to complete your first distance race, you’ll absolutely love these course options. It offers a little bit of everything…from fast flats to rolling hills…from open roads to greenways and trails.....the Holly Springs Half Marathon, 10k & 5k races introduces runners to the best that our town has to offer.
All 3 races starting from Ting Park, the Holly Springs Salamanders’ baseball stadium, located at the North Main Athletic Complex. The 3 races begin to split with the 5k having a turnaround on Crossway Lane in Sunset Ridge and back to Ting Park.
The 10k filters into the fast canopy-covered greenway through both Veterans & Jones parks and down to S. Main St for a turnaround near Womble Park. The Half Marathon Runners will continue downtown on Main Street by Town Hall, winding through the ball fields of Womble Park and down the time-banking (ie fast!) Carl Dean greenway to the Bass Lake Park entrance. Roadtown Turkey Trot 5k 5K (2024)
Built in 1902, the M.N. Spear Memorial Library is a single 900 sq ft room with no running water. We love our current library and it has served us well for the past 120+ years, but we have outgrown it. Today libraries are so much more than repositories for books. Libraries offer videos and audio books, computers, museum passes, science kits, and spaces for people to meet and work together. While we have managed to meet some of these needs, the current space is woefully inadequate.
Our Library is the heart of our community, offering programs for everyone – from story time for our youngest visitors to fitness classes for seniors – and providing opportunities for community connections for all. We need a need a bigger library for all of this, plus, we would like to wash our hands after using a bathroom.
In 2022 we became the fortunate recipients of the one and only Massachusetts Small Library Pilot Grant, which will cover 75% of the cost of a new library. Most importantly, 83% of voters supported moving forward with the grant. We are designing our new library now and will break ground in Spring of 2024.
The Friends of the MN Spear Memorial Library have anticipated this moment and have worked hard since 2010 to raise funds for our Town’s share of a new library. We have a goal of $550,000 by the time we break ground next spring. We now have $460,000, all raised from within our small community of just under 1,800 residents. For ten years we’ve hosted bake sales and tag sales, collected deposit recyclables and organized Giving Day appeals. We are now looking to our broader community to help us clear the last hurdle. At this time of Thanksgiving, please consider supporting us by signing on as a sponsor for our Roadtown Turkey Trot.
On a crisp autumn morning, runners and walkers of all ages and abilities will gather at the heart of Shutesbury for an invigorating 5K road race. The course will wind through the picturesque roads, providing a scenic backdrop as participants stride towards the finish line. Whether you're an avid runner seeking a new challenge or a walking enthusiast looking for a fun activity to kickstart your Thanksgiving celebrations, the Turkey Trot promises to be an event for everyone. The Event will:
- Feature a kids' run.
- Have prizes to fill your Thanksgiving tables.
- Showcase local business sponsors.
- Raise funds for a new Shutesbury library.
- Age group Awards winners: Male & Female: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90+
Tom Turkey Trot '24 Tom Turkey Trot 2024 (2024)
Come join us for the 12th running of our Tom Turkey Trot! Always held the Saturday before Thanksgiving, this race started as a way to help with growing chemotherapy bills of a local man near and dear to our hearts. After his passing in 2016 we continued to race for a cause that was near and dear to HIS heart! Now we run to raise money for Trade School scholarships to be given to students in Liberia.
Our course is all paved through a local neighborhood. With rolling hills and very little traffic it's a great opportunity for your PR! We welcome runners, walkers, joggers, strollers, and dogs. We will all be racing TOGETHER this year! Instead of doing waves and winners in each wave, this year we will have AGE GROUP AWARDS! ALL course finishers will receive a unique 2023 medal, and the 1st place finisher, male and female, in each of the following age groups: 13 and under, 14-25, 26-40, 41-55, 56 and up, will win a commemorative trophy! We are back to serving pancakes at the finish line this year, as well! All runners get pancakes with their registration fee, extra people who come to cheer you on can eat for just $5 each.
You may also choose to run this race virtually! Please email [email protected] after registration if you would prefer to run on your own. Finisher medal will be delivered or shipped to you after November 24th.
